The First Track Day with the E39 M5 March 1999

|
| Here
is "our" track. It's not the largest track and it's not Nurburgring.
But it's a racecourse and not too far from Stockholm, Sweden. Only 2 km
long, you don't have to worry about the the 250 km/h speed limiter. You'll
reach a speed of about 180 - 200km/h on the Strip. |
|
It
took about 1- 1,5 h drive to arrive to our racetrack. We started from
Stockholm 6 o'clock in the morning. Surprisingly the 250 km/h cut-off didn't
engage when the tach showed 260 km/h, but I guess that have to do with
the tachometer which isn't 100% correct at these speeds.
Anyway,
here is the car and driver, Peter.
Here we change from the original 18" wheels to 18" AEZ equipped with
slicks. |
|
|
| We
here is a true race car! With full leather and wood inlays... A LapTimer
is fitted above the stereo for in-dash lap time information to the driver.
A larger (better?) special rear-view mirror is fitted too. |
The
second part of the lap timer is fitted at the start / finish of the track
and the results are exchanged optically. |
 |
|
| We
took two cars because we had both slicks, rain tyres and toolbox with us. |
|
|
Alot
of button-pressing before the start. Deactivate the stability and antispinsystem
(DSC), push the Sport button for faster throttle response and more sensitive
powersteering. Turn off airconditioning. Remember, we only have 400 HP
so we won't let the AC steal any of them.
All
set! >
